When a Standard is not Standard

My nice little IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad x41 has a "full size" keyboard, says marketing literature that mentions an ISO standard.

So why is key spacing 10% less than several regular computer keyboards I have?

(The x41's design is compromised to get its compactness, fitting a keyboard in the minimum width required by its "12 inch" display whereas most really compact computers have an inferior keyboard. (Go up to the traditional "14 inch" display size, in whose case some models had a 12 inch display, and you can have the key spacing commonly used for computers.) On top of its awkwardness is the placement of the caps lock key between the shift and tab keys, thus easily hit. Thankyou! Microsoft for adding notification that Caps Lock is ON when presenting a UID+PW entry box.)
